Anti-Aircraft Missile Shot at Israeli Aircraft from Syrian Territory: Report
Civilian building and vehicle damaged following incident, ‘likely cause by fragments,’ IDF says
An anti-aircraft missile was reportedly fired at an Israel Air Force (IAF) aircraft Friday from across the Syrian border as shrapnel landed in Israeli territory, causing damage to a civilian building and vehicle in the Druze town of Majdal Shams.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson released a statement, saying “a short while ago, explosions were heard adjacent to the security fence from the Syrian side of the border,” and confirmed damage “likely caused by fragments.”
Syrian reports suggested that the Syrian army launched an anti-aircraft missile against “hostile targets” that infiltrated Syria’s airspace over the Quneitra region, according to Hebrew-language outlet N12.
Tensions on the Jewish state’s northern border with Syria and Lebanon have surged lately following the killing of three Hezbollah operatives in Damascus by an alleged Israeli airstrike last week.
