Jan 21st Lakeland, FL Dr. King’s Pro Israel/Peace Legacy Event
Continuation with the previous day’s (Why Israel) event, we discussed Dr. King’s relationship with Israel and the Jewish people in celebration of his holiday. We shared the correspondence between former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and Dr. King, as Ben Gurion commended Dr. King on his plans to lead a, “mass pilgrimage of the American Negro Community to the Holy Lands.” That pilgrimage was interrupted with by the 1967 War, and sadly never happened. We also discussed Dr. King’s steadfast support for Israel after the war, despite international pressure to condemn the Jewish State. We shared that Israel was the premier international cause that Dr. King championed while fighting for the civil rights of his own people.
