Oct 20th Providence RI, Spanish Why Israel?
On Saturday, October 20th, our CUFI National Hispanic Outreach conducted a Spanish-Speaking Why Israel? Event in Providence, Rhode Island. This event was hosted by Pastor Dr. Santos Escobar of Vida United Methodist Church who committed to hosting CUFI events with his congregation, since he went to Israel earlier this year on our first-ever Spanish-speaking Hispanic Pastors Israel Trip. What was so amazing about this event is that it was part of Pastor Escobar’s congregation’s second annual pro-Israel weekend that began last year after the United Methodist Church unfortunately gave way to anti-Semitic views on their denominational platform. As a result, this pro-Israel congregation decided to have an annual pro-Israel weekend during which they would have church services specifically designed and dedicated to educate and empower their congregants to support with Israel and the beloved Jewish people. Approximately 140 people attended this event including a visiting Pastor from another congregation who joined the host congregation in becoming CUFI members, joining our Daughters For Zion Prayer Network, and giving offerings towards our CUFI On Campus work. Additionally, the visiting Pastor also requested to host a CUFI event with his own congregation next year. Thus, this event made a great impact far beyond its own event!
El sábado, 20 de octubre, nuestro alcance hispano de CUFI llevó a cabo un evento de habla hispana “Por qué Israel?” en Providence, Rhode Island. Este evento fue coordinado por el Pastor Dr. Santos Escobar de la Iglesia Metodista Unida Vida Abundante, quien se comprometió a acoger eventos de CUFI con su congregación, ya que fue a Israel a principios de este año en nuestro primer viaje de habla hispana con pastores hispanos.
Lo asombroso de este evento es que fue parte del segundo fin de semana anual pro-Israel de esta congregación que comenzó el año pasado después de que la Iglesia Metodista Unida desgraciadamente diera paso a posturas anti-Semitas en su plataforma denominacional. Como resultado, esta congregación pro-Israel decidió tener un fin de semana anual pro-Israel durante el cual tendrían servicios de la iglesia específicamente diseñados y dedicados a educar y empoderar a sus congregantes para que apoyen a Israel y el pueblo judío amado. Aproximadamente 140 personas asistieron a este evento incluyendo un pastor visitante de otra congregación que se unió a la congregación anfitriona para hacerse miembros de CUFI, unirse a nuestras red de oración “Hijas Por Sion”, y dar ofrendas hacia nuestro trabajo de CUFI En Campus. Además, el pastor visitante también solicitó organizar un evento de CUFI con su propia congregación el próximo año. ¡Por lo tanto, este evento hizo un gran impacto más allá de su propio acontecimiento!
