Jerusalem police kill Palestinian attempting Yom Kippur stabbing attack
A Palestinian was shot dead by police outside Jerusalem’s Old City on Tuesday after an attempted stabbing attack, Israeli and Palestinian officials said.
An Israeli police statement reported “an attempted stabbing attack” near Damascus Gate, saying “a police unit at the spot neutralized the suspect,” with the Palestinian health ministry saying they were informed of the death of a civilian by gunshots.
There were no immediate details on the identity of the attacker or if anyone else was harmed in the incident that occurred just after sunset on Tuesday as Jews were observing Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
