Israel: Shin Bet Reveals Hezbollah’s Efforts To Recruit Israeli Informants
Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed Tuesday Hezbollah’s efforts to recruit spies among Israelis.
According to a press release, Beirut Hamud — an Israeli woman from Majd al-Krum, a predominantly Arab town in Israel’s north — together with her husband, Balal Bizari, tried to recruit Israelis to spy for the Lebanese terrorist group.
The couple is currently based in Lebanon, with Shin Bet picking up on their activities after arresting two informants the two were able to recruit.
The informants, both residents of Majd al-Krum, were arrested earlier this month and charged with spying for Hezbollah.
The two women, who had now both been released from custody with restraining orders, met with Hamud in Turkey in December 2019.
After the incident, Shin Bet reached out to Balal to warn against any further efforts to recruit spies among Israelis.
According to Israel’s domestic security service, Beirut had already come up on the radar of Israel’s security forces in 2013 after her contacts with Hezbollah activists at conferences in Morocco in 2008 and 2012.
