CUFI Welcomes house Passage of Sanctioning the Use of Civilians as Defenseless Shields Act

WASHINGTON D.C. December 11, 2018 – On Tuesday, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, applauded passage by the House of Representatives of the Sanctioning the Use of Civilians as Defenseless Shields Act (H.R. 3342) Act as amended by the Senate.

CUFI has supported this legislation since its introduction by Senators Ted Cruz and Joe Donnelly, as the STOP Using Human Shields Act, during the annual CUFI Washington Summit in July. In addition to CUFI’s 5,000 Summit attendees lobbying their elected officials in support of this bill at that time, CUFI members have since sent more than 34,000 emails to lawmakers asking them to support the bill.

“Those who use human shields are the worst kind of cowards. The practitioners of this monstrous practice hide behind the skirts of women and the bodies of children in order to attack neighboring innocent civilians. The 5 million members of CUFI welcome the House’s actions today and we look forward to the President signing this legislation into law, ” said CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.

“CUFI’s members and the staff at the Action Fund have been with this legislation every step of the way. We are very grateful to Sens. Cruz and Donnelly, and Reps. Wilson and Gallagher for their hard work in ensuring this bill got to the President’s desk. But there is more work to be done before this legislative session comes to a close. The House has passed several bills that are awaiting movement in the Senate. We call upon Senate leaders to work together to advance the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, the Combatting BDS Act and the US-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act without delay,” noted CUFI Action Fund Chairwoman Sandra Parker.

With more than 5 million members, Christian United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
