“Is there not a cause?”
— 1 SAMUEL 17:29
When David took food to his brothers while they were preparing to enter battle with the Philistines in the Valley of Elah, he was confronted with a choice. Should he return to his father with news from the front or stay and fight Goliath?
David chose to stay and do his part: kill the evil giant that came against his people! He was mocked by his elder brother as well as the establishment by being falsely accused of pride and disrespect, while all the others ran in fear of the threatening Philistine.
1 Samuel 17:29 records David’s response to his critics, “Is there not a cause?” David was confident in the face of his naysayers, saying, “The Lord that delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37).
In her history as a modern nation, Israel has been attacked numerous times and been both outnumbered and outgunned. But the Lord has always ensured victory for His people. As Israel continues to fight against Hamas, we can trust that we will see Him do the same for the Jewish state as He has in the past!
