CUFI’s Word of The Week – You Are A Treasured Possession
“The Lord has today declared you to be His people, a treasured possession, as He promised you, and that you should keep all His commandments; and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, for praise, fame, and honor; and that you shall be a consecrated people to the Lord your God, as He has spoken.”
–Deuteronomy 26:18-19
As Moses reiterated God’s covenant to the people for a second time on the plains of Moab, he encouraged the people to follow God wholeheartedly. Israel was called to keep God’s commands for at least two reasons:
For praise, fame and honor. As a special nation, Israel has a calling to be exalted – to bring God glory among the nations. When God’s people are exalted as a special nation under God’s blessing and favor walking in His ways, God is exalted.
Because they were a consecrated people. Special and set on high, Israel is also set apart. The people of God must always come out from the midst of unrighteous actions and alliances to truly fulfill God’s calling.
Be encouraged this week: as a member of God’s people, you have been adopted into the covenants of God as a treasured possession (c.f. Ephesians 2:11-22). You too are awaiting promised exaltation (1 Corinthians 1:6-8), and you are consecrated to God (2 Corinthians 7:1).
