CUFI’s Word of The Week – The Confidence that Creates Contentment
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 4:19
One of the most encouraging promises in Scripture is Paul’s assertion, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). And while the truth in those words can certainly apply to many situations in our lives, its immediate context encourages believers who are struggling financially.
Paul thanked the Philippians for their generous financial contributions to his ministry, but he reminded them that he was more than capable of both getting along with “humble means” and living in prosperity. Whether he did not have enough or he had more than enough, Paul had learned how to be content in every circumstance. He could survive any situation because Christ gave him strength.
From this confidence, Paul could say beyond the shadow of a doubt that the same God who had provided for his needs would richly bless the Philippians as well.
If you or someone you know is struggling financially, allow Paul’s benediction to steady you today: our God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Pray: Ask God for a spirit of contentment, as Paul had, and confidence in His gracious providence.
