CUFI’s Word of The Week – Be Still and Know
“But Moses said to the people, Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”
–Exodus 14:13-14
You are likely familiar with the Exodus story. The Israelites were rescued by God from slavery in Egypt through a series of miraculous signs and wonders (see Exodus 3-14) After their grand exit from Egypt was allowed by Pharaoh, they prepared to celebrate and worship God.
But Pharaoh, with his heart hardened against God’s people, reneged on his promise to Moses and chased after the Israelites with the Egyptian army. The Israelites saw Pharaoh and the great army approaching and shook with fear. What now? They wondered aloud. has God brought us out of Egypt only to let us die in the wilderness?
Instead of grumbling and crying out against their situation, the Israelites were told to “keep silent.” In Hebrew the word means to be quiet, to rest, to keep silent, or to be still.
This week, if you find yourself afraid, undone, or at wits’ end, remember what the Lord has done for Israel-the miracles He has wrought-and be still. he will fight for you.
