CUFI Welcomes House Passage of Bill Targeting Hezbollah’s Financing
SAN ANTONIO – On Wednesday, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, welcomed passage in the House of Representatives of the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act of 2017. This legislation targets foreign governments that support Hezbollah as well as companies and individuals that aid the terrorist organization’s fundraising or recruitment activities.
“Hezbollah is one of the principle agents of violence and chaos in the Middle East. They are Iran’s proxy terrorist army, and confronting them in this manner is a good step towards minimizing the harm they and their backers in Tehran can cause. We look forward to the President signing this bill into law,” said CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.
CUFI has long supported efforts to isolate and defeat Hezbollah, and in recent weeks CUFI members sent more than 43,000 emails to elected officials in support of the bill.
“We’re pleased that the House has joined the Senate in overwhelmingly approving this critical legislation. This bill won’t end the danger from Hezbollah or its puppet masters in Iran. But it’s a concrete demonstration of a renewed resolve to recognize and confront the escalating danger to the US and our allies from Iran and its proxies. We believe that it must be the first of many such measures,” noted CUFI founding executive director David Brog.
With more than 3.5 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
