“Congratulations to Boris Johnson” – CUFI statement on the General Election result
CUFI would like to congratulate Prime Minister Boris Johnson following the result of the General Election that confirms he will re-enter Number 10 and form a new government.
We will be praying for the Prime Minister as he leads the country through this pivotal period in our history and for all elected Members of Parliament. Our nation is at a crucial crossroads and we believe CUFI has an important role in the weeks and months ahead. As we enter this new season, we are mindful of the need for the UK to stand with our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel. Our relationship with the Jewish state is of utmost importance if we are to see Britain be blessed, secure and on the right side of history.
As Christians we shared the same concerns as those of the Jewish community that feared waking up today to the news of a new PM who is fervently anti-Israel. We know that many have been praying that this would be avoided.
We are under no illusion that the problem of anti-Semitism has disappeared overnight – anti-Semitism remains in the Labour party and must be rooted out. And we must continue to fight against the evil of anti-Semitism with all our might, whether it be from the far left, far right or by Islamic extremism such as that experienced daily by Israel.
CUFI is committed to working with Members of Parliament who support Israel from all political parties. We are also determined to challenge anti-Israel narratives in Westminster whenever they occur and invite you to help us by holding our representatives to account. The 12 principles that CUFI introduced prior to the General Election will continue to be front and centre of what we would like the next UK government to implement. We firmly believe that Britain has a bright future by standing with Israel.
We declare with even more determination today the words of Isaiah 62:1: “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.”
Thank you for your on-going support and for standing with Israel and the Jewish people for such a time as this.
