Weekly Reflection – Abide in the Lord

Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

— ISAIAH 40:31

The exiles’ confidence in God had been shaken and they were concerned for their future. They had forgotten their story, which was the history of the Lord’s relationship with His creation in general and with His people, Israel, in particular. The Jewish people had yet to realize that because they had a history with God, they would have a future with Him as well.

The Lord will not fail those who abide in Him, who listen for His voice, who obey His mandates, and rely upon His faithfulness in all things. Isaiah encourages Israel not to become disillusioned and reminds them that their God will give them the needed strength to accomplish their mission —they must only trust in Him.

As Israel fights terrorists on multiple fronts, this remains as true as ever—and you can trust that the Lord will use any setback or difficulty in your life for your good as well!
