As you know, since Hamas’s brutal October 7th massacre and kidnapping of innocents in Israel, antisemitism has reached fever pitch across the United States. In fact, according to the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitic incidents increased by more than 300% in the wake of the terrorist attack and ensuing war.
In Georgia, we saw grotesque instances of antisemitism even before the conflict, and in response, last year, the Georgia State House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed Georgia HB 30. As you cannot defeat that which you don’t define, this legislation recommends the use of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism as a tool in combating Jew-hatred.
Despite the legislation having passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support, the Senate never advanced it to the Governor’s desk.
