CUFI’s Word of The Week – A Holy Place to Work Wonders
“Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.“
—Joshua 3:5
Paul echoes this instruction in 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1. After instructing the Corinthians to have no partnership with unrighteous people, Paul reminds them of the new covenant promise: God Himself will dwell among His people, but they must “come out” from the midst of unrighteousness first.
So, Paul tells us, “having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
Is there any unrighteousness entangling you as you wait for the Lord to work in your life? Can unholiness be separating you from experiencing His signs and wonders?
As Joshua prepared to lead the people into the Promised Land, one major obstacle stood in the people’s way: the Jordan River.
Joshua’s instruction is telling: the people are advised to “consecrate” themselves because the Lord would do wonders among them the very next day. “Consecrate” means to sanctify, prepare, dedicate, to be holy, or to be set apart.
The Lord requires a holy place to dwell and let His glory abound. Let us make it our business to set apart our hearts unto holiness so the Lord can work wonders in our lives as He loves to do on behalf of His Chosen People.

Read: 1 John 1:9.
Pray: Ask the Lord to search your heart and reveal any hurtful ways in you (c.f. Psalm 136-23-24). Commit to let the Holy Spirit bear His fruit in your life as you strive to grow in godliness.
