CUFI Hosts Holocaust Survivor, Educator in Three California Cities
March 27, 2018
DAVIS, CA – This past weekend, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, held events featuring Holocaust survivor and educator Irving Roth in Modesto, Sacramento and Davis.
In his remarks, Roth discussed his experiences during the Holocaust as well as the rising anti-Semitism he has recently seen both at home and abroad.
“The Holocaust was a time when prejudice, hatred and anti-Semitism transformed ordinary men and women into murderers. It was a time when demonization replaced truth. Today propaganda against the Jewish people is again replacing facts. This must not happen under our watch,” Roth said.
CUFI and members of the local Jewish community felt it was important to hear Roth’s voice, especially in light of anti-Semitic comments made by a Davis-based imam last summer and the horrific events last year in Charlottesville, VA – where CUFI held a similar event in September.
“Given the events of last summer, when a local imam brazenly called for the murder of Jews from his pulpit at the Islamic Center of Davis and never retracted his comments, we think it is imperative to hear Mr. Roth’s experiences about the horrific consequences of the failure to confront anti-Semitism,” noted George Rooks, Chairman of the Israel Matters committee at Congregation Bet Haverim in Davis.
“We must stand up to anti-Semitism in every form and at every turn. We must not tolerate hatred masquerading as faith, nationalism, or any other movement, rather, we must call it what it is and confront it,” added CUFI’s western regional coordinator Randy Neal.
With more than 4 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
