CUFI Condemns UNGA Resolution on Jerusalem Recognition
December 21, 2017
SAN ANTONIO – On Thursday, leaders of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, condemned the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) nonbinding resolution denouncing President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“The UNGA once again finds itself on the wrong side of history. For over 3,000 years Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people, and for 70 years it has been the capital of the modern state of Israel. The UNGA’s action today will do nothing to change these facts. The only consequence of the UNGA’s resolution is to once again prove how immoral and ineffectual the international body has become,” said CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.
“We applaud Ambassador Nikki Haley for her commitment to enforce consequences upon those who failed to stand with Israel and America today,” Hagee added.
“President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem is a reflection of both reality and the will of the American people – the same American people who send their hard earned tax dollars to the UN and to many of the countries that today condemned the President’s righteous action on Jerusalem. As we continue to work with leaders in Congress, we will work to support the Trump Administration’s pledge to remember which nations chose to attack our country for our bold and just stand on Jerusalem,” noted CUFI Action Fund Chairwoman Sandra Parker.
“This vote will surprise absolutely no one. The UN has a built in, automatic anti-Israel majority. The UN shamed itself when it declared Zionism to be a form of racism back in 1975. The UN has annually shamed itself by singling out Israel for criticism while ignoring genocide, ethnic cleansing an slavery around the world. And the UN shamed itself today when it voted to deny the fact that Jerusalem is and has always been the capital of Israel,” said CUFI founding executive director David Brog.
With more than 3.8 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
