CUFI’s Word of The Week – Jerusalem’s Watchmen

“I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.”

–Isaiah 62:6-7 (NIV)

The Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is uniting men and women from around the world to the cause of His people, Israel. From the moment God called Abram into covenant with Himself, He promised: “I will bless those who bless you, and those you curse you I will curse” (Genesis 12:3). Those who wish to be on mission with God must align their hearts with the causes with which God concerns Himself—and Israel is among the most important.

In biblical times, a watchman was responsible to stand guard, warn of enemy invasion and protect a city or town. At times, they were stationed throughout the city as a form of police (Song of Solomon 5:7), but they commonly had posts on the city walls or on towers to see threats and activity outside the city (2 Kings 9:17).

Today, the state of Israel may not have literal watchmen on her walls, but the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob said those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse Israel will be cursed, a promise which is still true today! Those who want to bless Israel today can do so by assuming the role of a watchman for Israel.

How can you be a watchman for Israel this week?

You can start by praying for Israel–petitioning for Israel–and protecting Israel through your decisive action.

Now is the day. Now is the time.

If not you; then who?

If not now; then when?
