CUFI’s Word of The Week – How to Grow Strong: Drink Milk

Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.

— 1 Peter 2:1-2

The word of God is living and enduring, powerful for regeneration and sanctification. Believers are born again by the word being preached and united with faith in them, making them a new creation.

Because of the new birth, we are to put aside what remains of our previous life—characterized by malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander—and like newborn children, long for God’s word. Babies crave milk when they wake up, throughout the day, and before they sleep. In the same way, we are to desire God’s word deeply, intensely, and continually.

As we internalize (one might say, digest) the word, we will grow in Christ day by day.

Read: Psalm 119. Notice how the psalmist praises God’s word and poetically describes his love for it.
