CUFI’s Word of The Week – God’s Intervening Grace

Oh God, do not remain quiet; Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.

Psalm 83:1

In Psalm 83:1-4, Asaph prays for God’s judgment on Israel’s enemies “that they may know that You alone, whose name is Yahweh, are the Most High over all the earth” (verse 18). He cries out:

O God, do not remain quiet;
Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.
For behold, Your enemies make an uproar,
And those who hate You have exalted themselves.
They make shrewd plans against Your people,
And conspire together against Your treasured ones.
They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation,
That the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

The sentiments of Israel’s enemies, as expressed in verse 4, still reflect the goals of many nations surrounding Israel: the destruction of the Jewish state. Although many nations and terror groups seek to wipe the Jewish state off the map, nonetheless Israel is thriving in adversity.

We know from Scripture and the miraculous history of the modern State of Israel that God’s intervening grace can always be depended upon amidst a struggle.

Have you ever cried out for God’s intervention on your behalf? How did God answer? What could happen if you asked God to intervene in the struggles you face today?
