CUFI’s Word of The Week – From Pleas to Praise: God is Our Everlasting Joy

“In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

— Psalm 16:11

In Psalm 16, David begins his prayer with a heartfelt plea: “Preserve my life.” But his admission of helplessness leads to help—through the power of praise. In the next several verses, David praises God for being his safe place, his treasure, his sovereign Lord, and his counselor. And his plea is answered as his heart overflows with praise.

By verse 10, he expresses his confidence in future resurrection. God would, indeed, preserve his life. In Acts 2:30-31, the apostle Peter preached that David prophetically spoke of the Christ, the Messiah, whom God raised from the dead in a declaration that death was dead and eternal life was available to all through faith in Jesus, the Son of the living God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the descendant of David.

Whether we are here on Earth or at home with the Lord, when the desire of our hearts is to be in His presence, we will find confidence in the face of death. Hope instead of fear. And joy instead of sorrow.

Read: Psalm 16:1-11 and Acts 2:22-36.
