CUFI Supports Nomination of Ken Marcus to Lead Department of Education Civil Rights Division

November 29, 2017

SAN ANTONIO – On Wednesday, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, expressed support for Pres. Donald Trump’s nomination of Kenneth Marcus to serve as the Department of Education’s Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights.

“President Trump has made a great choice in nominating Ken Marcus for this post. He is highly qualified and has the experience and clear-eyed vision to tackle the important issues this office is tasked with addressing. Simply put, Ken Marcus is the right man for the job,” noted CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.

Earlier this month, Sandra Parker, Chairwoman of the CUFI Action Fund, testified before the House Judiciary Committee in support of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act. This legislation would codify the State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism for the purposes of investigations into potential violations of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

“Ken Marcus, an outspoken and leading supporter of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, has been a pioneer in the as yet unrealized effort to ensure the Department of Education effectively applies Title VI protections to Jewish students facing discrimination on campus,” Parker said.

“Jewish and pro-Israel students face bullying, harassment and intimidation because of their faith and support for the Jewish state. This must be addressed, and once confirmed, I am confident Marcus will do just that,” Parker added.

“I have known Ken Marcus for over twenty years.  There is no one in Washington who could bring more intelligence, integrity and relevant experience to this position.  The Senate should confirm him with without delay,” said CUFI founding executive director and Board member David Brog.

With more than 3.8 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
