Weekly Reflection – The Power of His Presence
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
— Exodus 3:11-12
Moses was overwhelmed by God’s appearance in the blazing bush. As he stood on holy ground, Moses removed his sandals and hid his face for fear of looking into the face of God. The Lord told Moses that He had heard and seen the suffering of the Israelites under their harsh oppression in Egypt (Exodus 3:7, NKJV). Then God assigned Moses to take the children of Israel out of Egypt and bring them into the Promised Land. Moses did not feel equipped for the task God set before him and, perhaps stuttering, asked God incredulously: “Who am I?” The Lord did not answer Moses with a list of reasons why he was capable to carry out His mission. Neither did God did ask Moses to cross his fingers and blindly wish he could accomplish what God had instructed him to do. Instead, the Lord simply replied with a powerful promise, “I will certainly be with you.”
