Weekly Reflection – Reverence
Then Darius the king wrote to all the peoples, nations and men of every language who were living in all the land: “May your peace abound! I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel; For He is the living God and enduring forever, And His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed, And His dominion will be forever. “He delivers and rescues and performs signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, who has also delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
— Daniel 6:25-27
The reality that God delivered Daniel and his friends from certain death was observed and recorded—no man could question God’s power. Both Darius and Cyrus saw how God prospered Daniel and brought to him good out of evil. Daniel was a walking testimony of the Lord’s love and protection before these two kings and their empires.
Today, believers may not confront literal lions, but our adversary “walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Nonetheless, we have the assurance that if we “fear and reverence” the Lord, He will shut the mouth of the most ferocious predator we will ever encounter.
Throughout history, God has always defended His Chosen People—and He has often used faithful people like you to do it. This week, consider: how does God’s protection of His people encourage you? How can you likewise participate in God’s protection of the Apple of His Eye, Israel, as war against the terrorist organization Hamas rages on?
